The name "KWest" (spoken: [kwest]) is derived from the company founder's names (Krause and Wendt) and the initial letters of "Embedded System Technologies". The pronounciation sounds like "Quest", a synonym for "search", "pursuit", or "investigation", which encompasses the philosophy of the company.

KWest investigates problems and new product concepts, searching for optimal technical and commercial solutions.

KWest's know-how is based upon so-called "technology platforms", which are hardware and software modules that can be reused in different applications or products. Together with KWest's in-depth experience in automotive electronics as well as audio, video and power circuitry, the customer benefits from a rapid time-to-market, a high degree of product maturity, and reduced development costs. KWest creates the basis for customers to implement their specific intellectual property and realize their product idea.

KWest's services cover the entire product lifecycle, starting from market analysis, proof-of- concepts, and system architecture, through to the development, design and test phases, to ramp-up support, and maintenance changes to replace discontinued hardware components or to reduce BOM costs.

For the last couple of years, new technologies have become available that were first available on the PC and are now conquering the embedded world. Examples are connectivity functionality like WLAN or USB, or digital media like MP3 or MPEG-Video in general. KWest offers solutions to either connect with these new technologies (e.g. iPod or mobile phone connectivity) or integrate their features into existing systems (e.g. DVD playback).

But because the real world is analog, KWest can also offer the know-how to convert, amplify and distribute analog video and audio signals. To verify developments in the real world, KWest has built-up it's own video and audio labratory, which also includes a "car simulator laboratory" that emulates the visual, audible, and electrical effects of different driving conditions.
